Let's knock EA out of first place this year.

I've been on hold for 25 mins now. Let's see if I get a person before I finish this post.

So paypal has been doing this thing where they took a three pronged approach to charge customers late fees and interest without them knowing.

1) All paypal customers are signed up for paypal credit. This is always the default payment method with no way to default to another method of payment. This can only be changed during checkout.
2) The interface is absurdly confusing. They have now changed all dropdown boxes to a pop-in from the right. The information presentment is also very shady.
3) No customer support. Like I've said.. 25 mins so far... I'm not sure if there is anyone picking up calls at all.

Basically Paypal charged me $70 dollars in late fees and interest for those few times that I had a pre-authorized vendor charge me an automatic payment. The payments amount to ~40 dollars. They are charging me 175% in fees for this over two months.

I receive an email every time I use paypal but never received an email about paypal credit payment due dates.

I received a call today from an old address telling me that someone received a letter notifying me of the late fees.... I wonder why this is happening considering that my address is up to date on the website. Their internal systems are not even up to date... I've had them default my address to a wrong shipping address before.

It's now 38 mins on the phone so I think I'm calling it quits. But I hope this company burns soon.

Here's a link to show that I'm not the only one affected by this. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...Lw8WlahzmOyATXm6eN3cdwg&bvm=bv.97653015,d.eXY

I've never had an issue with Paypal..ever, in..what nearly 20 years?

I've never understood why people do (except maybe regular sellers).

I read your complaints. You realize their webpage and process hasn't changed in years? I know from posts here that lots of people hate them, but I've been using them regularly since inception and had nigh a problem.

Their website has definitely changed. That's relatively minor compared to them defaulting all payments to paypal credit and sending letters to the wrong address. Interface I find annoying but I wouldn't complain about that by itself.

Customer support is also pretty huge. You will not notice if you don't have problems, but I can fix just about anything through amazon chat in 10 mins whereas paypal had me on hold until I said fuck it... I'll see how this lawsuit works out.

You just happened to pick the least crucial complaint (interface). I don't think anyone can say that the practices outlined in the link show good business practice.

I'm voting with my wallet and cancelling paypal regardless of resolution here. I guess that means avoiding ebay as well.

I agree - never had a problem BUT all I do is use it to pay for stuff and it takes a millisecond to click to take it out of my check account instead of their credit option. I suppose this could be a problem if your multitasking with a cell phone app while driving down the freeway BUT being a prudent driver, I don't do that. Of course if I don't have spar money for something I use my registered credit card (Yes another click) but for $400 purchase I make $4 by paying my credit card at the end of the month. Yes using their credit is lame so just don't do it!

No considering:

  • I used paypal last week for an ebay auction win
  • It defaulted to my bank account for the default payment...like always.

What incentive does Paypal have to change when people that vehemently complain about them keep using their service(s)?

My Paypal got hacked several years ago. I didn't have a debit or credit card assigned, so I didn't actually lose any money myself, even though the Paypal account was at about minus €500 balance. I emailed them and then got an email back from them saying the issue was resolved and the balance restored.

About 1.5 years later, I get an invoice in the mail for about €60 that they somehow "missed" when "restoring" the balance. Since it was due in 2 days, I didn't have much of a choice but to pay up.

Now I only use Paypal if I absolutely must. I then register an account, pay the merchant, and then cancel the Paypal account. I don't trust them, and apparently, dis-associating any debit or credit cards with the account isn't enough of a safeguard.

I'd be a happy clam if that happened to me as well. That wasn't the case however.

I just logged into my PP account, which I haven't used for about 6 months, and I got a splash screen telling me I could apply for PP credit. I closed that and my account was the same as it has been, $0.

Not saying it didn't automatically sign you up for PP credit, but it definitely did not for me.

I have never had any problems and have not had to contact customer service, so I can't comment on that experience.

No issues with Paypal here either. As far as worst companies in the world, they probably wouldn't even crack my Top 100.

Comcast needs to DIAF however.

Never had an issue with Paypal... Comcast on the other hand... Don't understand how a company so big can be so terrible at customer service. There really needs to be some shakeup at Comcast.

Yeah, it seems unlikely that credit could even an option without agreeing, let alone the default. The method for each recurring payment/subscription is certainly configurable, as is the default for one-time payments.

4. Unless I'm an idiot which could be the case there's no easy way to print out your credit card payment like it is on the other billion credit card sites.

Never had a problem with PayPal, ebay or Comcast. Although, Comcast customer service doesn't know shit and their only answer is to reset everything. So I'm on the phone with them and the phone goes dead. Duh! I have Comcast voice dumb ass.

Comcast here seems to have server problems for this area because at least every month maybe a month and a half one or all services just stop working and when I call them they say there is a problem in the area. They are unreliable.

PayPal has always defaulted to my PayPal balance, with a savings account as a backup source. On top of that, the couple times I've had to contact them on the phone, their support was great. That said, it's obviously a big issue if they are indeed signing people up for credit, or changing their default payment method.

No one (except maybe Frontier) is remotely in the same category as Comcast. But Comcast can surprise you-two of my three recent trips in person to Comcast actually involved a helpful CS rep who went over and above to get my problem solved. I made sure to log on and leave those individuals very positive feedback-hopefully it doesn't get them demoted or fired.

Comcast itself though, is in a league of it's own. Recently my wife had to return equipment for her elderly mother. Per website two Comcast stores nearby, each about 20 miles away, hours listed on line, etc. My wife drove to one of them-there was a handwritten sign on the door saying that office had been closed six months earlier. WHAT KIND OF INTERNET COMPANY DOESN'T BOTHER UPDATING IT'S OWN WEBSITE?

Got burned by PayPal about 10 years ago. Never used them again ever since.
