First off. . . Starting school this semester, and I do a fair bit of travel and I am only doing online courses until I can relocate in early 2007. With my travel schedule, I needed and set out to find a good reliable mobile machine that I could lug around, watch dvds, listen to music, and do course work when needed. With that being said, the 256mb worth of memory, will be upgraded to 512mb if needed, same goes for the 40gb HDD . . . will be upgraded if needed. Other than that, I think I am making out with one heck of a steal from Compaq. Has anyone heard any horror stories from their machines since they joined up with HP years ago? The reviews I have read at notebookreview.com concerning HP and Compaq boxs (as they appear to be, for the most part, the same box) have nothing but praise for the systems. Anyone agree with this before I go through with this? 🙂 This is my first laptop purchase as well. So I expect it to last for a good two or three years (through til I graduate).

Also went w/ the 12 cell battery as, and correct me if I am wrong, I will get a longer battery life (x2) compared to that of a 6 cell battery. Right? So if I was looking at around 3 hours w/ a 6 cell, I should be golden w/ 6 hrs with a 12 cell, eh eh eh?

Oh yeah, one more thing. This machine comes w/ the RJ45 port already right? Seems kind of vague in their customization stuff where I selected the wireless stuff. Just want to make sure I'll have access to either an ethernet or wireless access point if needed. (newb question I know. . . ugh).

that looks like a pretty good deal.
yes, you do have a ethernet port. They all come with one on modern laptops.
The 12 cell battery -should- double battery life, although i'm not sure how much battery life it is. I doubt it can go 3 hours, but I could be wrong. Also, i think you should upgrade to at least 768mb ram, not 512, since the video card will use shared ram to run.

Hate to bump this, but anyone know if this machine uses 200 pin, or 144 pin memory? I just had compaq on the phone too, damn it.
