- Why is it the only Vostro that doesn't come with an XP option? Will it ever?
- Why doesn't it come with a 7200RPM HDD? Will it ever?
- Why doesn't it come with a higher resolution display without "TrueLife"?

- Why doesn't it come with a 7200RPM HDD? Will it ever? I don't know. You can always get the cheapest hard drive and add one in yourself. They are probably not there either due to supply issues (can't procure them fast enough) or they are trying to streamline the assembly to keep costs down.
- Why doesn't it come with a higher resolution display without "TrueLife"? I don't think Dell has ever offered high resolution, matte screens. Probably falls under one of the above two reasons..

#1 reason... The Vostro line is meant to be near strictly very small business focused - Extreme value, with minimum configs to maintain profit... more configs and you add complexity to the supply chain. These are meant to be highly available supply, and be cheap.-hence limited config options, no high res, etc.

that's why... any more questions?

I don't see how adding a 7200RPM hard drive to the mix is any more complicated, especially when they offer dual 5400rpm drives...

Then maybe it's a supply issue. If they can't procure stuff fast enough, they don't offer it because Dell tries to keep wait times down as much as possible. Why don't you call in an order and see if you can get the 7200RPM drive that way?

I guess I don't understand the question...

The only OS you can get on a V1400 is XP! :Q

Btw, I do see a 7200RPM drive option. I don't know why they don't offer XP, maybe some deal with MS to get Vista cheaper for those machines

Dude, we must be seeing different options, based on our browser cookies, and/or whether or not we're logged in, or something...

When I go to the Vostro 1400 page, the only OS options available are XP Home and XP Pro - that's it!

And, there is NO 7200 RPM drive option...

Man, this is weird!!!
