Vortex 2 Latency fix not working in XP.

I have a vortex 2 sound card with the MSI K7T Turbo-R (KT133A nothbridge) and running win XP.

I have been using the latency fix with wpcrset for quite some time but recently the fix stopped working.

I first noticed the audio cutting out in UT2003 demo requiring a restart. I don't think that UT2003 is the problem as onother similarly configured ccomputer without UT2003 and it also started showing the same problems recently. I whought it may be from XP SP1 but my second computer does not have SP1 either.

I am using the original default XP drivers and I have tried reconfiguring and reinstalling wpcrset without success.

Although I noticed the problem in UT2003 the majority of them occur when watching a high quality divx or DVD. I tried playing a DVD for the first time in months and after it repetedly cut out audion after several minutes of play I tried to find a solution.
After several restarts I desided to disable wpcrset and to my surprise the DVD played without audio but sometimes the audio quality was severely reduced and replaced with noise like sometimes before the sound cut out. The sound never stopped playing though and the wuality was fixed by pausing or changing the position in the movie or simly changing some audio settings even software volume.

Does anybody know of any new problems with the fix and XP and vortex 2 or maybee that wpcrset expired so it does not work anymore?
Please help if you can.

Thank You

I know this is not what you want to hear. But i got sick of fighting with my Vortex2 SQ2500 and KT133 (not the A)
I broke down and bought a cheap Live! and put the Aureal card with my other machines BX board atleast it seems to work there.

I'm sorry I dont have anymore advise. I have no idea why wpcrset would just stop working, sucks 🙁

If I would upgrade I would go with an Audigy or higher but they are still too expensive for me right now, but everything else is not nearly as pleasing to my ears.

Thanks

You tried a Santa Cruz card too? I too missed my Vortex2; still do. It had a lot that today's cards still can't seem to get right - like its equalizer. I could mess with that without distortion; if I do that with the bass on my Santa Cruz, I get awful distortion. Of course, I do have an equalizer in the drive bay, but still...
Overall I like my Santa Cruz; works pretty nice, and has very good sound.

Or do check out an nForce 2 board; the nForce's are supposed to have some of the best (if not the best) onboard sound on the consumer market.

Yeah, you would have a great performance motherboard and awesome sound card for the cost of a freakin Audigy2 by itself. Then again you will need some DDR Ram too.

WinXP and Vortex soundcards don't work well together. You're better off getting a new soundcard.

My setup has always worked fine. But that's odd, i don't understand why the set program would stop running all of a sudden. But, i don't know, there might be some help at vortexofsound.com.
