Vortex 2, Abit KA7, and Win2k

I finally got tired of Windows 98 crashing and decided to put Windows 2000 pro on my home machine. Unfortunately this has not been so successful. I can not seem to get my Aureal SQ2500 (vortex 2) sound card to work on my Abit KA7. When I install Win2k, it installs the aureal drivers that come with Win2k. These appear to work (you can hear the volume adjust in the speaker when Windows starts), but no sound comes out. When I start a DVD, the system locks up.

I have read how the vortex 2 boards are not that fully compatible with Via KX133 chipsets (KA7), but I had them working just fine with Win98 and the newest Aureal drivers. If I can find the elusive Win2k beta drivers for the sound card, will this improve my situation? Has anyone else been able to fix this problem?

Should I just wait until I have enough money and buy a SoundBlaster Live? The one thing I really liked about the SQ2500 was the very little noise the card produced. How does the live compare on this regard. I can't seem to find any data on the signal to noise ratio on the SoundBlaster.

Thanks
