Voom Cable service?

It's satellite, and noticing your other thread, you'll probably be very interested since it's primarily HD programming, thus filling up your entire 16:9 TV. 😉 It was rather costly to install, but last time I saw an ad (last week?) , they were running some promo, much like the normal cable/sat providers do.

You might want to flip through their channel guide though...just because it's in HD doesn't mean it's entertaining. 🙂

its pretty expensive, but i am considering it.

edit: n/m their channel lineup sucks and most of the hd channels offered by voom are already offered by comcast in my area

hmm, i really want a new cable service but then my online price shoots up and right now i have 10 down/1 up for 29.99 a month!
Once, again, it is not cable, Voom is satellite.

To further clarify VOOM is also not an ISP for internet service, it is television programming.

Well, he never said he wanted to change his internet, he kept referring to cable as Voom, but yes, Voom is not an ISP even though it is owned by Cablevision.

Voom offers the most HDTV content, except they require a landline phone. I turned off all my landlines since I was already all cellular. I think requiring a landline is a big mistake.

I have it. Great picture quality (less compression than Dish & DirecTV). Very mediocre lineup. Lots of HDTV, but the Voom only channels sorta suck.

HDCP is enabled, so if you want to use DVI, make sure your display is HDCP compliant.

Current firmware on their box is buggy, but it seems like they're pretty diligent at updating.

They provide an OTA antenna for, you guessed it, OTA. The OTA antenna (there's 2 they normally use) is practically useless. It's only good for those that are very close to the towers. This being said, they will provide an alternate (up to $60 worth) if you cannot get a signal with that one. They provided me with a ChannelMaster 4228, one of the best UHF antennas around.

The landline is currently unused. I have 5 Voom boxes and NONE of them are attached to a landline. They may use it in the future, that's why it's required.

Their installers SUCK. Did I mention they suck? Yeah, they suck. So basically, what's going on is they suck.

The further west you are, the lower your dish will point. Not possible to get signal from all locations. Problem is most of their installers suck. They're used to installing Dish & DirecTV and have little experience with Voom. Plus, they suck. You may be lucky and get a good one with a little experience, but I wouldn't bet on it. Put your money on them sucking.

Edit: oh yeah, forgot to add. Their installers suck.

Should I take that as an insult??? 😀

WTT < Voom installer (also DTV/Dishnet/Dway)

Haha. 🙂

There are a few good ones, but there's been a lot of screw ups too. No personal slam on you. 😉

If you can avoid taking a day off work for your Voom install, do so. Lots of late, missed, or failed installs.
