voodoo5 and "y" cable

what is the y cable all about do i have to put it on i did but just wondering will it work without it....

the y cable is to make sure you have plenty of power from the power supply
DO NOT.DO NOT run the card without it or you may destroy the card quickly
just plug it in on a power line
