Voodoo5 and Windows XP

I recently installed Windows XP 2505 and I've been having endless problems with games and such.

When a game tries to use OpenGL, it crashes.
When a game tries to use Glide, it screws up the screen and I have to reset.
When a game tries to use Direct3D, it works, but when I quit I get a stop error.

The driver installed just fine, and when using the regular UI everything works as it should. I'm using the latest official Win2000 drivers. It worked fine in 2462. I am certain this is a compatability problem with the driver, although I haven't tried it on any of my other boxes, both of which have Geforce2 MX boards.

Is anyone else having problems like this? Any workaround? Must I just wait for a new build?

3dfx is not supported in RC-1...you have to use Win2k drivers cause Nvidia refused to give MS the source code for the Voodoo drivers

The w2k drivers will work in Win XP. However, opengl and glide will not be supported for the voodoo cards. So if you don't mind being stuck in 2d and in d3d mode, than v3 card will work fine. Other than that, you might as well stick with win2k until you have a chance to get a new vid card.

ahhh! so it doesn't work at all? that sucks...

So, one of 2 things is happening here:

1. Something in the RC1 video code has unintentionally broken all 3D APIs besides D3D. It will be fixed by RTM.
2. Microsoft thinks they can gain an advantage of some sort by forcing everyone to use their D3D code. It's no bug.

I really, really hope it's the first. Really.

So let me get this straight.......Bascially nvidia bought 3dfx. Then Nvidia who is in partnership with Microsoft (XBox deal) decides not to give the source code for glide to Microsoft. Now Microfost will in the near future try to force everyone to use XP. I know they are doing this to large corporations. So basically voodoo users are going to be forced to upgrade to a different card. I do have to say that this is totally pitiful. I am going to upgrade to a Geforce 3 in the fall when the DX8 games come out and the price of the card comes down. It is too bad. Kind of makes my voodoo 5 5500 card one for the closet. I think they could have at least supported the card. I guess they figure as time goes by less people will be using glide since it is now no longer used. It kind of sucks for the games out there that are better in glide.

I still plan to jump on the preview program, but thats only because I plan on getting a new card asap anyway.

oh well... 🙁

someone said that those driver from the go.to site really work, but they slow down performance a lot.
