I'm trying to help out my cousin and it might just put me in the mental hospital.
He has an older Dell V350. He has pretty much upgraded everything over the years. Everything was onboard. Here's what he's got:
Dell Dimension V350
PIII 850E (was a PII 350)
Voodoo5 5500 PCI (was ATI Rage 3D pro onboard, then a Voodoo3 2000)
SB Live! Value (was on board)
Everything onboard is diabled. He was having a problem with D3D. Things would run fine in openGL but nothing would run in D3D. DX8 is installed. He had everthing hosed up. After hours of cleaning his Hard Drive out and cleaning out the registry and reinstalling the drivers I thought I had it fixed but noooooo.
I decided since he had this machine for about 3 years and did numerous upgrades (drivers and hardware) and never had done a fresh install of Win98, it was time to do one.
Windows 98se is installed, DX8 installed, and the latest drivers for 3Dfx for the Voodoo5. Nothing else is installed. I then ran dxdiag and it's telling me there is no 3D acceleration available for D3D.
I'm not a big Voodoo fan so I don't read up on them. Is there something I'm missing as far as fixes or patches that I don't know about.
I'm fairly experienced with dealing with these types of problems but this one has me stumped. Any clues?
