Voodoo5 5500 DVD Hardware Assist?

The Voodoo5 5500 claims to have DVD Hardware Assistance, but I have yet to notice a difference in playback quality from my old Diamond Viper V550 (16mb nVidia TNT). Do I need special software that supports the V5? I'm using PowerDVD 2.55.

Thanks in advance.

The Voodoo5 does not have hardware DVD. A software player will do.

Voodoo5 has the same amount of "DVD Hardware Assist" as any other even half-modern video card. It can do pixel colorspace conversions on hardware and support stretched overlay, but there are no REAL DVD hardware acceleration features such as motion compensation or inverse discrete cosine transformation in it.

TNT/TNT2 is just as good in DVD playback as Voodoo5, quality difference between these two depends purely on software. But don't take my word on it.
