I can't watch TV on my new Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP card (yep, the one from Onvia). Every 3-4 seconds, the screen flickers green for a split second. It's damn annoying. Any ideas? :|

edit: the screen only flickers in the TV window. If I go to full window, of course the whole screen flickers. Otherwise, the video card is working great. I checked the cable, but it's not that. I tried using RCA inputs (from VCR output), but I'm getting same bad result.

Anybody??

Here's more info:

I'm running on a Pentium III, 500 MHz.
Windows 98 SE.
Generic Plug-n-Play monitor.

The DVD player works fine. Get good clear video/audio. Just the TV is giving me hassle. :(

MIP---- More information please.............are you overclocking that pentium?........and if you list your settings in all tabs I will match them to mine (which is running great) and let you know any differences. It might be a little work but for a fine running system it's worth it

Well, it's not overclocked. What/where is/are the settings? You mean like screen resolution? 1024x768 w/ 32-bit True Colors?

thanks for the reply :)

No, the settings for your tv settings.......... cable/station etc....you must have scanned all your stations available thru your cable company right? I'm talking about all those settings in there.....if you haven't done it yet you have to download visual reality from 3dfx's website, I assume you've done this because you need the skin to change channels.

....another thing it should be in your "3dfx tools" on your CD and make sure your cable is going into the left hand side connector on the back of your video card.....that's if you are behind the back of your tower looking at it from the back.....going on memory here I am not at my computer right now

Yes, I have cable. The screen shows good picture. I can change channels, etc. Except that every few seconds, the picture flickers and turns green (like a monochrome monitor from 20 years ago).

And yes, the cable is going to the TV in slot, not the FM slot. I went to the 3dfx site and downloaded the latest drivers/software: 3dfx Tools and the Visual Reality.

:(

Maybe removing the card and reinstalling might work???

My roommate's Voodoo3 3500 has that same flickering problems before. But with the latest drivers and a fresh install of Windows Me, the problem went away. Try using the Windows own "Web TV" instead of 3dfx's TV viewing software.

Thanks for all the help. All the inputs have been helpful.

I finally (stroke of luck) figured it out:

I had to remove the Creative DVD Decoder Card. I guess the MPEG decoder of the card was interfering with the MPEG decoder of the Voodoo3 card. Which makes sense, I guess, but since this is my first time changing video/decoder cards of nature, I never thought of it. As soon as I removed the card, I got great TV reception.

Then, of course, the Creative PlayCenter (DVD player) started not working. So I removed the Creative PlayCenter and installed WinDVD that came with the Voodoo3 card.

Now, I can go back to my TV and movie watching habit. :)

Hmmm... that's interesting, my roommate's Voodoo3 3500 is still connected to his Creative DVD decoder card and he doesn't get those flickers. However, he has yet to install the PlayCenter software after the windows reinstall so maybe the flicker will come back.
