I recently upgraded my computer with a Duron 800 and was having trouble
getting Windows to boot up after installing the 3dfx reference drivers,
after trying the Athlon friendly drivers from www.tempest.xcl-clan.com, it worked great!!

But I have another question. I am running DirectX 6.1(fresh Win98SE
install) with the DirectX 6 drivers also from the driver file from the above site.
If I install DirectX 8.0a, can I still use the DirectX 6 drivers? The
reason I ask, and I don't know if this will fix this or not, but in the
opening sequence of Half-Life the video jumps a little and the audio
hiccups. I've only played the game a little so far, but it seems to be fine after the opening. I built my friend almost the same system:
FIC AZ11E
Duron 800

But he has a Voodoo3 and HL runs fine for him. I'm using the onboard audio and the latest 4-in-1's from VIA. I've also noticed that my Windows startup sound hiccups too. I can minimize this by disabling DMA, but this doesn't fix HL. I'm starting to think that the darn V2 is causing these problems. I'm going to remove it and see what happens. I am getting a Geforce2 MX soon, then maybe I can relax! :)

The thing to remember is that my friend has almost the same setup as far as mobo/CPU/drivers except I installed DX8 for him.

TIA:confused:
