voodoo in xp - it is slow

I like windows xp but it sucks in games. I have a voodoo 5 and my frame rate is a lot slower than usual. 1078x764 in quake is a little choppy and the same resolution in nascar 4 is about 22fps where it was 34 in Windows ME. Is this because I have no driver support in Windows XP?
