My athlon 1.4 GHz shouldnt be limiting it, i got 256MB DDR266 too! This vid card is makin me mad, it distorts my sound too! the voodoo 3 i borrowed is so much better...but i want to use a voodoo 5... *sob sob* :(

Hmm, it's odd that the Voodoo3 is getting better 3dmarks than the Voodoo5, but that might be a difference in the WinXP drivers. Likely though, you have FSAA on for the Voodoo5.

For WinXP, I found that the x3dfx drivers and the GlideXP drivers give the best compatibility.

Don't worry about 3DMark because it means absolutely nothing in the real world. Try some games instead.

However the Voodoo5 does not have fully-featured drivers under Windows XP so your only choices are to get another card or to go back to another OS.

What do you expect from a card with no more support or official XP support? That's the unfortunate problem of having a card from a defunct video card manufacturer. That said my V3 AGP also was decent in XP, but I upgraded it to a Radeon DDR. You should look into a GeForce GTS-V or a newer card for equivalent or higher performance than ur V5 (except no glide :(

Well on 3dmark2001 i only get a little above 3000 on a Geforce 2 GTS and my Pentium 3 at 980mhz. A voodoo 3 getting 3000 seems a little weird to me...

Doesn't seem that weird for 2 reasons: 1.) He's using a 1.4 GHz system. 2.) Voodoo 3 CAN'T do 32-bit, meaning it's running 3dmark2k1 in only 16-bit colour (making the 3000 score much more plausible).

The beauty of the V5 5500 is that it still does the beautiful 16-bit rendering (even more so) so you can get away with using 16-bit color in lots of games (with glide) and get nice speeds and pretty much 32-bit colour detail.

You need to look for some better drivers man, game performance should be great.

The 2000 marks on 3D Mark 2001 sounds familiar. The 3000 on a V3 sounds like a 3DMark 2000 score instead.
There is nothing inherent in the V5 which condemns you to sound problems. Somehow I knew you had a Creative soundcard when I read that. You do know that XP is not the best partner for a 3dfx card don't you....
