I was told that I didn't need a decoder card when using a Voodoo 5500 Video Card. I am trying to test the DVD player and I get from the "PCFriendly" software that came with the DVD that it can't detect my Decoder. Was I told wrong? Or do I need software?
Please Advise!!!

The Voodoo5 has NO hardware acceleration of DVDs at all. But the, if you have a 500MHz+ processor - who cares? It looks great anyways! :D

Unfortunatly, it will not let me play the movie because of the fact that it does not detect the decoder. I have a AMD 1.2GHz. Is it or isn't it able to decode DVDs?

with that system you should have no problems using a software decoder like Power DVD.

WinDVD, it has better picture quality IMO, plus you can minimize out of the fullscreen mode unlike PowerDvD.

I second WinDVD as well... Some DVD's I have don't seem to play well with PowerDVD. I dunno why.

are you using the software that's for one specify brand hardware dvd decode card?
is "PCFriendly" a dvd-rom drive and hardware dvd decode card bundle?
you cannot use that kind of software without the card.
you should use windvd or powerdvd such kind of software dvd player for any vga card.
