I need help! I just got my new computer but
it's got just a crappy old TNT 2 card,
I wanna get either a Voodoo 5 5500 agp
or a radeon 64 meg ddr.

The Geforce 2 Gts 32 is also an option.
With my system, i just want to run Unreal Tournament
and Quake 3 at 60 fps.

i mostly care about Framerates.
I like a smooth game!

If you could offer any help on what the best card is,
i could use a little advice. With my current card, i gotta
run at 320X240 with all graphics to low to get 60 fps.

My computer's cool.
But i need a beter damn card!
Thx. Please Answer.

My v3 can get 60 fps with medeum setings at 640x480 I dont think your tnt2 could b that bad. If your cpu is too slow though you will never get 60 fps.

Man, what a waste of money. Why didn't you ask for a better video card with your new system? Now when you get a new video card you'll just have to chuck the TNT2.

From your list:

The 64 MB Radeon is the fastest card in 32 bit colour.

The GTS is the fastest card in 16 bit colour.

I can't recommend you get a Voodoo 5. It's a nice board but there's no future support for it. Plus it's quite big and uses a lot of power.

The 5500 is a great card. The drivers are the best of all.It will also play the most games with the least amount of glitches. It has the legendary 3dfx compatibility with games.

Not that bad huh, i bet it, even with 32 meg memory, cant beat a voodoo 3.
The game lags, and some levels like the eternal cave it runs at 30 fps or below at 320x240! I hate the card. Well.. I'll get a beter card when the geforce 3 launches. Till then, i gotta put up with this crap.

I just read this again and notice you mention the 64 meg Radeon. That will be your best bet for overall speed.I didnt like my 32meg ddr Radeon but i hear the 64 megger is a diff story.

I haven't had an Nvidia since my TNT card, but I would think that you should be able to get very playable framerates on a TNT2 at a decent resolution! Is that thing one of those castrated M64s Vanta things or something?

You can get a Radeon LE (32 meg card) for $85 if you are looking to get something without breaking the bank. It is software crippled, but with a couple tweaks, is brought up to a full speed. There are a ton of posts about it here and the hot deals page. That card will run Q3 and UT at the rates you are looking for. A 64 meg Radeon will set you back about twice that price.

Look for a Gforce2 GTS - they are simply the fastest cards. Avoid the Voodoo, and stay clear of the ATI cards, They are over-rated and despite their claims,do not compare to the Gforce's in the "real" world

One would assume you've never used one.

I guess it depends on what you consider "real world". If that is Q3, STVEF, UT, Giants, NOLF, HL, Q2, etc, then the Radeon and GF2 compare very favorably. If 3DMark scores are you primary concern especially in 16 bit, then the GF2 card is the one to get.

ever notice how someone comes in, like Son of Zeus and makes a chucklehead comment like he made, then ditches out and lets the regulars battle it out over the same old thing?

heh....in case anyone actually believed his gibberish, he's wrong. For details, check any one of the 14,398,204 threads dealing with this subject.

stormwulf if you bought a computer with a TNT2 and wanted frame rates in games then my guess is that you lacked a little in the "clued-up" department and didn't realize you were getting an M64 (I am convinced you have one).
OK what happens is this:
I take the V5
you take the GTS
and leave the unmentionable to oldfart ;)

I simply state facts then leave, no use in arguing with morons like you.
In case you didn't notice or are not itelectually capable, arguing over which card is better is a waste of time. Gforce owners will say they are best, Voodoo Owners say theirs is best etc, etc.

You sound like a troll to me and i don't know why i am feeding the trolls.

END OF THREAD FOR ME

Um... I All are pretty good guards, But you are wanting a GTS 32 megger? Why? The 64 is around the same price as the Radeon 64 megger.

Geforce 3 > Geforce 2 GTS/Pro/Ultra 64 MB > Radeon 64 MBs > Geforce 2 GTS32 MBs > Radeon 32 MBs

This is what I would get.. :p

Geez,i just ralized that i do got one f them M64 things.
I checked, and you're right. BTW, i can get a radeon 64 meg and voodoo 5
for $300 canadian. They're the same price! Ant the GTS 32 meg (annihilator 2) for $379. I might as well wait for the NV20 to launch and wait which cards drop most in price. I heard the voodoo 5 5500 agp has the best per frame graphics but has the worst framerates. I read that the raden is a great card but ati has bad driver support. I know that Nvidia cards have incompatibilities with Diablo2, all the guys on the net say that it crashes with the geforce 2 cards, it also crashes with my TNT 2,
i gotta run in GL 2d mode or somethin.

All these cards have their drawbacks, i'm just lookin for a good card,
that wont go out of business, good performance, good driver support, 60 fps on most gamez and a thrift price tag. Of you can name that card, i'll buy ya a ps9 maybe when it comes out, if your nice.

go checkout www.pricewatch.com unsure if you can order them and have them sent to Canada.

I had Radeon 32mb DDR retail version, overclocked it. It did fine in Quake 3, but UT wasn't very fast or pretty.

The problem is that a lot of your "facts" are incorrect.

Sounds like you have some unresolved issues there Junior. You might want to lurk and read some posts before embarrassing yourself here again. You can be very welcome here or it can be a VERY rough ride. It all depends on how you conduct yourself. Respect is earned here and you're not doing a very good job presenting yourself. Just some friendly advice.

For anyone in Winnipeg, they have a sunday-monday special at Computer Avenue. Voodoo5 5500 for $209 Canadian plus tax. Cheapest I've seen yet. :) $238.26 after our lovely (@#$^#$^!!!!) tax.
~$155 US after tax, $140US before. Taxes suck.

Based on your requirements, you've eliminated the Voodoo5, as they ARE out of business.

It's more of a personal preference thing with the other 2 cards, as performance and price will be good with either of them, and neither is going out of business any time soon. Some have complained about ATI's W2K suppport, but haven't heard anything about bad support with other O.S, so if you don't use W2K, that's a non-issue anyway.

My preference is Visiontek GeForce2 GTS, but that's only because I own one, it was cheap, and everything I throw at it works beyond what I expected.

I simply replyed to the Origonal Poster's request.
I gave my opinion, to which i was flamed by roboTECH. Do i not have the right to respond to him? The argument of "what is better" has been going on for years and will continue for years, no just video cards but many other things also, How many posts have you seen on what CAR is better, what CPU is better ETC ETC.
When i see one of these posts i usually just post my opinion and thats it. Why should i stick around to argue a mute point? I usually don't feed the trolls, this time was an exception.
Have a good day.
I stick to my post that the Gforce 2 GTS is better/faster than the Voodoo or The Raedon.
