Hello,

It looks like you can get a voodoo 4 for only $10 more then a voodoo 3. Considering that I have a pII 300 and only have PCI would the 10 bucks extra make any differnce to the performance on my box?

Thanks

ps. here is the link that pointes to a good deal on v4. I have not checked it out yet, but it looks good.

No v4 pci? I guess that makes my choice easier!

Thanks for the heads up.

oldfart, is that for the specific deal he's talking about?

The V4 (and V5) both come in PCI varieties

If there's only a $10 difference, I'd go for the V4. It's a *bit* faster, and has better features and image quality.

He was talking about the Office Depot deal (I think he was anyway). They are on clearance and those are the only types they carry.

Even if you could find an OD that had the card, and end cost was $75, your system would be better of with an OEM GeForce2 MX card for around $85. This will give you more life when you do finally upgrade your CPU, and should outperform the V4 by a small amount today, and a huge amount once you finally upgrade CPU's. Plus you have to factor in the future support aspect. ZERO with V4, looking good for the GF2 MX.

BTW, what will 3dfx owners do "if" their card craps out in 6 months (not likely, but what if)? Since the company will be long gone by then, and no other company is taking over warranty service, are they SOL?

IMO Robs has a good point.
With 3dfx down the drain, you'll most likely be left with no support for that V4 in the future.
I'd rather go with a PCI MX, or a Radeon SDR if those are available in a PCI flavour.
