Ok me and well, not my friend but some moron got into an argument about which was better...PCI or AGP v3. I understand that the AGP version will get about 5 more frames, but he was b!tching about getting 15, when someone with the same system got 50. I told him to stop being ignorant, but he kept going on and on about how great the v3 AGP is. Could anyone find me some benchmarks between the two? Thanks.

I don't know of any bench marks that compared the two, but I think your friend is exaggerating quite a bit. 3DFX never really took full advantage of the features of AGP so the PCI version is nearly the same speed.

Very minimal performance difference. Approximately 5% at most, the 3dfx V3 did not take advantage of the extra features of the AGP slot, it always operated as essentially a PCI card irregardless of the physical connector. The only advantages the AGP slot offered a V3 was slightly higher bandwidth over PCI.

The AGP and PCI versions benchmark very similar because 3dfx never really implemented the AGP features available. Supposedly, 3dfx used some proprietary transfer method that was superior to regular AGP, but I won't get into technical details that I can't explain.

AGP is faster overall than PCI in most cases though, personally I've only run the AGP version and it was fast enough for me at the time :)
