which one has better framerates in unreal tournament? im thinking of getting a geforce2 mx for my older k6-2 500mhz computer. i wannna kick my bros ass in unreal tounament

Check out Anand's benchmarks. They should be able to show you the performance in UT each card offers.

check out an upgrade guide. Though I don't know the rest of this older system of yours, any K6-x system is "low end" right now, especially in floating point stuff, i.e. games. Like the review said, if UT is your only thing, a V3 is still better than an mx. If you go to quake, and other stuff, the mx is faster. But V3 3k's are awful cheap now....😉

DOH! I'm so slow 😛

Zeeliv - the mx wins in most everything, except unreal engine games....and he specifically stated he's a UTer.... I personally would still go for the mx, but if UT is its only use, then I'd go for the V3 3k.

BurntKooshie, did you check my link? Anand's benches showed the MX winning even at UT.

EDIT: bleh, you linked to ones with a closer proc to his. NM, it's very proc dependant. 😕

IMHO....i play ut on a v5 and it looks great and it would probably be just as nice on a v3 as well. i had a v3500 for awhile and things ran very nicely on it, yes the mx has nice speed/memory but if what you mostly play is ut, you'll be fine with v3 even if you do other stuff too

oh and by the way, i'll take ya on any day, i'm not great but i finished off last week ranked 400th in death match out of 9000.....not too horrible

I would get a V3.

I think it's best for your low end system. Its extremely cheap, is less CPU dependent than the MX (esp for glide in UT), and is known to have basically no compatability problems with K6 motherboards.

I just installed a Creative Annihilator 2 MX in my P!!! 600E, replacing my trusty Voodoo 3 3000 PCI card. the difference is unbelievable! (note to self, update signature line) I don't know if it is any faster than the Voodoo 3, as both get about 60 fps in 800x600, but the MX does it in 32 bit color and it is spectacular!! Now I have to figure out how to get another one for the celeron 600 I am planning to build tomorrow night. I am afraid the voodoo 3 3000 just won't cut it anymore for the kids (or me). So if you value the opinion of one who has just done it, go for the MX! I thought the N Vidiots were way out of line when they said how the MX would kill the V3 (and maybe the V4, too) but I have to say seeing is believing. Remember though, I am running it on a P!!! 600 with 128 MB of ram, but it is beautiful!

Sheesh, you don't buy a viddy card for one friggin engine and if you did you would get a Savage since it does UT fast and in full color and with high resolution textures! The Voodoo cannot even use the high resolution textures via the recent OpenGL hack, while the Geforce can. There is simply no reason to buy a Voodoo, if there ever was, in my opinion. It prolly is half the price of a Geforce, but then so is a Savage. For the extra dough the Geforce seems more consistent (but as discussed in another thread lacks the Savage video out and quality DVD). The thing is, once you decide to go with a Geforce without video out, the Radeon is so close in price and is clearly superior than all the others. Remember as far as those old benches that both the Savage and Geforce have faster drivers and it does not look like the Savage was tested in MeTaL, but then as was said UT is more CPU dependent. In any case go for quality because any small performance hit is not significant when you consider the difference in the picture.

if UT is your only game and you want something REALLY cheap, and that you will be upgrading soon, get the V3 as that will not last you for a long time

if you want to keep the card for a bit longer get the MX

btw about that Anands benchmark on UT with the K6-x
they dont look weird to me
G2/GTS running 1024/16 - 17.6fps
V3 2000 - 37.4
anyone got any other site having simiar results?

auric, couldnt agree more.... who buys a card just for one engine... unless its dirt cheap? $50 isnt dirt cheap in my book... if ya just want UT and q3, consider the savage4. yes, it does look better than v3 and runs at about the same speed.

you can get a savage 2000 for around $50 with rebates and coupons or something now or used in forsaletrade, that would be a pretty good card considering

If you are looking for performance, the V3 will almost certainly be quite a bit faster.

If you want image quality, the GF2MX walks all over the V3/4/5 in UT when running the Loki patch(as do the Savage boards, the Radeon and all the other GF based boards).
