Voodoo 3 3000 166@186

I've got a pretty old system, an AMD k6 200 mhz, 64 mb ram and of course the V3 3k, which I have overclocked from 166 mhz to 186. I've seen 3-4 fps increase in games like Soldier of Fortune, so its great. I have a good fan on it too.
Now my question is; is 186 mhz a good and un-harmable overclock speed for the V3 3k with a fan on?

The chip with a fan can be clocked VERY high(210 - 220 mhz) the ram is what limits overclocking. I dont think you can fry ram since it does not heat much but maybe you could kill the ram somehow?

Now I've ran my card at 200 mhz in 2 hours or so, without any problems!! I got another 4-5 fps increase, but the thing im afraid of is that my card would collapse without my knowledge, since it wont show any "clues" about that the card is not "feeling good". I mean, I dont get any kinda visual problems or crashes. Could it just die some day ? I mean, because of my overclocking?

Actually, you'll see visual problems on the screen when your GPU is starting to freakout. I'd suggest you set your power saving options to turn the monitor off when ther's 5 mins (or less) of inactivity.

Know what ticks me off? A friend wanted to buy a voodoo 3 2000, and since I had one, and could sell it to him for a good price, I sold it and bought a 3000.

However, I have a fan on it and everything, but he can overclock my old 2000 higher than I can get my 3000 to go, and his is damb stable. Any ocing on my 3000 pretty much results in crashes and glitches.

My luck. 🙂
