Vonage question

How have you got it setting up at home and also how frequently do you have to reset your cable modem?

I've got 2 machines connected to the router which is connected to the cable modem. So I just plugged it in to the router. Looking at their website though they have it before you get to the router.

It worked fine last night, but I have to reset my modem maybe once a week and after I did it this time I couldn't get connectivity with anything on the router.

I got mine setup up between the cable modem and my router. I don't recall having to reset it since about the first week or two I had it. I am though still waiting on my number to get ported.

How long have you been waiting?

Expect to wait a long time if you're porting from Verizon. Verizon will take upwards of a month to port your number to Vonage. 🙁

It said it was sent to comcast on March 17, I believe. No updates since then.

I have not had to reset my cable modem ever due to vonage. I have had zero problems in the 2 weeks I have had it. I have the motorola Digital Phone adapter between my switch and cable modem, I am also using the DPA for my router, as it was causing problems. If you are using a router other than the Vonage DPA, make sure you turn off the router functions of the DPA

I've only had one problem in months with my Vonage. I have the older Cisco ATA-186 DPA and I have my Netgear router forwarding the following ports to the DPA.

Phone Adapters Internet ports:
5060 through 5063 using UDP protocol
123 using UDP protocol
69 using UDP protocol
53 using UDP protocol
10,000 through 20,000 using UDP protocol

Doh!

First they charge me 33-36 a month for local phone service then the bastards won't relinquish the number.

I'll probably try in between the router and modem so I won't have to worry about forwarding any ports.

Working great right now. I blame it on a flaky Roadrunner connection.

Just got an email from them, price drop to 29.99 a month for unlimited long distance...w00t!

You do not need to forward ports. However you do have to turn off the DHCP within the vonage box. I had a problem with that too, it was DHCP confiction between the router and the vonage box. I simply webbed into the vonage box. turned DHCP off. then plugged the vonage right into the router. haven't had a problem since. with no port forwarding.
