So after seeing a few friends with vonage, doing a major VOIP deployment at work, and realizing i was paying way to much for my home phone, I decided to switch to Vonage.
A breakdown of costs:
1. Verizon monthly bill: $66 to $70 depending on how giddy people get with 411.
2. Vonage service (inital setup and phones included): $132.33
Item: Price:
Activation Fee $29.99
TI VTech IP8100-2 Rebate ($70.00)
TI VTech IP8100-2 Device $149.99
Item(s) Subtotal: $109.98
Shipping & Handling: $19.95
FET Tax $0.90
Regulatory Recovery Fee $1.50
Total Amount $132.33
3. Vonage monthly bill: $24.99 (add $5.00 for tax estimate) Comes in at about $30.
To recoup my losses for paying for two new 5,8ghz phones and the Vonage signup it will take about 2.5 months ot break even with the monthly cost of vonage included. After that the savings will be $35 to $40 per month.
Now on to the phones:
I bought the TI VTech IP8100 phones, two of them to be exact.
They are nice little phones, speaker phone included and they do call transfer, etc. etc.
The service:
I am very happy with the VOPI funciton, I have the "preier" service form my ISP so i am suppsoed to get 6mb/768k for speeds (up/down). I have the quality set to the best it can be and I have no issues at all. All calls get sent to my cell phone in the event my ISP goes down, which is pretty nice.
One feature U really like is the detailed calling, and the forwarding of voice messages to my email inbox. That is pretty cool. Throw in the unlimited calls to anywhere in the US and Canada (got some friends in Eskasoni, NS) and it is paying off very well!
