Monthly plan for 24.99 down from 29.99. Anyone with Cable modem can transfer over their land line number to Vonage. DSL your out of luck..can't transfer number. Verizon sucks!!! hehe

Yea, I thought about going with Packet 8 but I went with Vonage because they will be around in the long run. I think Vonage has more customers than Packet 8.

Is your bill total equal to your rate plan or are there a lot of fees/taxes added on?

Before buying an unlimited plan see if the $14.99 / 500 minute plan will cover your needs. Since every minute over 500 is only 3.9 cents, you would have to use 756 minutes a month before the unlimited plan makes sense. Since we have unlimited nights and weekends on our cell phones, the $14.99 makes the most sense.

all these VOIP deals... i wanna drop our land line and save like $10 a month.... blast reliablity concerns

Your land line service at $25 per month is a real deal. My land line service usually runs at least twice that for local, regional and long distance service, or more than $300 additional per year.

That is why I am considering VOIP.

I've had vonage for about 3-4 months now. I chose it over the cheaper services simply because of name brand and I could get the equipment that day.

My cable connection is 1mb/256k. I can suck down all day long and not notice any call problems. If I upload alot then there is some quality issues on the other end. I've heard that if I put my VoIP adapter between my modem & firewall then some outbound QOS will be done which would likely solve my problem. I'm just too lazy.

Anyway, I've been happy with Vonage and don't see any reason to change unless I move and cannot get cable.

I've been interested in VoIP for a while now, but Vonage's site says nothing about connecting more than one phone to the service, can you guys give me some insight? I also need to use faxes, I'm assuming that I'd have to get the business plan or just pay per fax...I recieve more than I send. Thanks.

I unhooked myself from the outside world at the box, and now have 3 phones (one line) plugged in; you can have as many jacks as you want running simultaneously if your house is wired correctly. I think you can get a second line for $10/month, so your fax will work fine, I think.

I do have a problem - signed up with Vonage when I moved back into my house (didn't want to pay Bell South $100 for hookup, so saved there), the quality on some international calls seems to be a bit faint - anyone had that problem? Of course, at 80% off for Intl Calls I have no complaints, but have to pick up the phone to speak (speakerphone not loud enough).

Overall, great service, though.

I just signed up last Monday and I have been very happy with the service so far. Have made a few international calls and calls to Canada with no difference in sound quality. I'm on the 500 minute plan and use it for calling Canada and outside the US, then the cell for domestic LD calls. The reason I got Vonage over Packet8 is because I could get the telephone adapter (FAR @ OD last week) the same day and try Vonage, and they have over 200,000 customers so they must be doing something correct.

I meant comparing to the 24.99/mo plan.. it's a little over 35, plus some taxes and junk, bringing it to $41/mo or so. Never have had to call 911 or anything, but there have been times when our cable would just randomly go out for a couple of days. I can't say our phones have ever gone out. granted, we do have cell phones...

Do you know if one can use Dial-Up networking with Vonage? I have need for dialing in to work through our land line to hook up to our mail and Mainframe, can this still be done?

Thanks

Juanmunch, you have 2 choices if you want more than one phone hooked up. Rewire your house's phone lines so they carry the signal. This wasn't possible for me (live in a condo assoc.) so I bought a multi phone set from Vtech. It requires only one jack (on the back of the Motorola box) and transmits the signal wirelessly to the other handsets. Very nice.

Overall I'm happy with the service. Calls overseas are very cheap. I'm going to take a look at the advice about the $14.99 deal because now that I think about it, I don't really call local/long distance for more than 500 minutes a month. Hehe.
