vonage broadphone and existing phone numbers

Im looking at getting vonage broadband phone service for my house. I want to use my current phone number. I was reading on there site that they give you a tempoary phone number and around 20 or so business days they'll have it switch over to your current house number. How does this effect your current land line phones if they are not disconnected in time when they switch to the current phone number?
 
When your number is transferred over, your land line will be disconnected and they will send you a final bill...

Your landline will ring and stay connected till the transfer is complete...you will have to pay both voanage and your landline provder till it is done however...

If it takes a real long time to transfer the account, Vonage should issue you credits...they did for me.
