Vonage - Anyone have it?

Has anyone tried Vonage internet phone service? Wondering if it will cause lag or any other issues with it before I sign up?

I have cable connection & 3 computers sharing my connection

I haven't had any such problems, but don't use it much, my dad runs buisness lines off of it.

Is the phone fine when you download or do games lag when the phone is being used?

Vonage is awesome! We've been using it for about 2 years, and I have zero complaints. My wife makes a lot of long distance calls to her relatives, so it really saves us a lot of money. I only pay 25 bucks a month, and it works like a champ. No one even knows you're calling them "over the internet" unless you tell them. I have run it on two seperate broadband connections, and can say that it works best with a lot of upstream bandwidth, so in my case, it worked best with my cable connection. I had it on a DSL line before, and it worked great too, but there was less upstream (only 128kbps), so if I was logged in to work and sending a big email message, it would cause my phone conversation to occasionally cut in and out for a few seconds. My cable connection has 384kbps upstream, and I've never had any such issues. Voice quality is top notch as well! As long as you've got a decent connection, you can't really go wrong with Vonage.

My brother has it as well as a co-worker of mine. No complaints from either of them. Don't use it myself because I rarely make any long distant calls.

It is excellent. It is especially useful because you can get a phone number from any area code in the US. So, if you have family in Michigan, but you live in Virginia, you can have a Michigan local phone number on the vonage box. that way, your family in Michigan doesn't pay long distance to call you. For $5 more you can add additional phone numbers to the phone.

The other cool feature is that you can set it up to forward your calls to your cell phone when you leave the house. Say good bye to your answering machine.

And another cool feature .... Vonage emails your voicemails to you so that you can listen to voicemail at work.

Vonage is cool!
