Germany - A German woman has been suspended by a children's charity for posing naked in charity calendar.
The Caritas charity suspended Edeltraud Linkesch - even though the calendar has raised nearly £14,000 for children with cancer. Ms Linkesch, 54, had worked as a Caritas volunteer, visiting sick children in hospitals in the Wuerzburg area, for three years when she agreed to pose. The calendar was a private initiative by photographer Gerhard Launer and the Wuerzburg printing company Scheiner who donate all money earned to the Wuerzburg hospital's paediatric cancer department.
Photographer Launer advertised for models in a local cinema showing Calendar Girls and around 70 women applied. Caritas told October girl Ms Linkesch that it could not tolerate such "tasteless" behaviour and suspended her. Spokesman Norbert Heilman said: "We are not prudish but participating in such a project like the calendar doesn't suit the value's of a Catholic organisation. We don't want to risk our serious reputation."
The black and white photo shows Ms Linkesch sitting at a table in a restaurant wearing nothing but a pearl necklace while a waiter offers her wine and a waitress serves her a meal. She complained: "They didn't even look at the calendar before they suspended me. But what is much more important is that we've raised so much money. And because of this reason I would do it again any time."
