I'm using w7 home edition...sound card is an Audigy 2 ZS. I reinstalled windows, and now the volume from the speakers is about 40% lower. I cant even watch netflix anymore because even cranked all the way up the speakers are still only partially audible. What gives? I checked all the volumes under the speaker icon in the task bar and they're cranked up all the way

Are you using the included drivers, or did you install Creative's? I find that there's a difference in volume between the two.

If their issue with a component (many times NIC, wire and Wireless, audio and special devices), it is advisable to look at the support site of the manufacturer and download from their the latest drivers.

Microsoft does not write the drivers for the hardware. The drivers are submitted to Microsoft by the manufacturer to be WHQL, and be included in the original DVD release, or and the Update site.

They are usually pure Drivers without the bell and whistles of the total package that are included in the manufacturer own releases (best example would be nVidea/ATI basic drivers), and meant to provide basic functioning of the hardware device.
