Volume seems really low after Audessey calibration

So I've been running my denon 2310 for several months now uncalibrated after I took it out of storage. Most movies sound good with the volume around 20-25. If I want to annoy the neighbors I'll do 10-15. But after calibration just to hear dialogue clearly I have to turn it all the way up to 0-5 now. The bass before would shake the whole house but not so anymore.

I'm going to recalibrate it but was wondering if I need to make any changes to the room to improve the accuracy of the calibration? I did have my server on which gave off a slight hum from the fans during the setup. The room is tiled but I have a rug covering much of the room. The room has windows with blinds instead of curtains.

Hmm what type of audyssey? I think mine has the minimum 2eq or whatever and I had no such problems, almost the opposite with this newest calibration (if anything, but not really).

Was your ac on if you have it? You werent in there right (lol)? Did you put the mic in the right positions? I set my room up exactly as it would be typically. I mean, you could obviously improve your room acoustically but you could say that about most people's rooms. The audyssey calibration helped me a ton, so that's odd.

Please post the levels that Audessey set all the speakers too. Also keep in mind the reason everything was louder before calibration is that the receiver had all the settings at 0 db. Mine are -3 for the fronts and then -5 for the sides and rears. The subwoofer is a little low at -9 but I just increased it to -7. Also it is not uncommon to increase the center channel level to get higher volume for dialogue.

The volume I usually listen to my movies around -15 which is plenty loud. Dont be afraid to turn it up.

My set up is below

Receiver - Onkyo 705

Polk RTI 6 L/R F
Polk CSI 6 C
Polk FXi 6 L/R S
Polk CSI 4 Rear
Veoldyne CHT-12 Sub

Good point, it lowered all of mine a decent amount as well. I have also heard of people changing the sub db to a different amount that suits them.

I would imagine my sub would have calibrated higher if I didnt have the subout split and going to both left and right inputs of the sub which effectively increases the subout level.

I have heard when you calibrate your sub, you want the calibrated trim level (level set in the receiver) to be around between +/- 6 db. You will have to play with adjusting the gain in the back to get this. I have seen people say between +/- 3 db but I just dont like seeing my gain below 25% to get this. After calibration, I wouldnt increase the sub trim anymore than + 2 or 3 db.

run it again and make sure everything is off that can make noise in the room. also make sure when you are placing the mic you are setting it on a pillow or next to a wall. I use a tripod.

i recently redid mine and had to do it 3 times before it. redid it twice as i was adjustint the sub out put and 1 time because something buggered it up and the distances were all wrong.

my fronts and surrounds run ~-4 and the sub is at -10.
the sub may seem low but the room is tiny. i sit no more then 8 feet from any speaker.

make sure after you run it you set your mains to small and check the X-over settings

Set it for how you like it and not by what the calibration tells you. Calibration assumes something that isn't true, perfect hearing. It can't tell if some people hear some frequencies better than others.

I once was big on calibration in HT, like calibrating the color for displays based on certified testing. I found that I often didn't like the calibrated color, it was too dark, too light or just wrong. I found adjusting it where I liked it worked best, damn the calibration !
