Volume of Preamp outputs

I just installed a speaker in the bathroom to listen to my receiver and connected the preamp output of my pioneer 1016 to a power amp and then to the speaker. Should the preamplifiers volume change when the speakers volume is changing? I thought the preamp is independent of the power amp within the pioner? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Erick

What's changing the speaker volume? If you're controlling it with the preamp volume, then obviously, yes, if you're referring to volume changes in the source itself, then yes, they will also change the preamp gain, not the amp gain.

yes, your preamp's output will change because the amplifier within the receiver doesn't touch the volume level, but the pot/attenuator does. If the receiver has a second zone, then that might be able to independently control the volume out of those outputs.

Thank you for your help, I assumed that the preamp outputs would be independent of the source volume level and I would be able to control the volume by the power amp solely.
