I need to find a low cost solution for antivirus software for approximately 50 computers located in an elementary school. The school's server initially scans for viruses but I need something on individual machines. Does anyone have experience with this?

trend micro was inexpensive compared to norton and mcafee. then again if you want cheap you cant beat AVG free edition.

AVG Free Edition is for home users only, educational institutions have to purchase it (but they get a discount). The only freeware antivirus program that non home users can use legally (as far as I know) is the GPL ClamWin.

Most antivirus vendors offer volume / educational discounts for public schools. I suggest contacting a sales representative for a quote regarding use in an educational environment from your proffered antivirus vendor.

ClamWin would not work for a school in my opinion due to the lack of an active scanner, provided that the computers in the school run windows.

I'm currently going through the same process for a car dealership, with about 80 PCs. I've recieved a quote from Kaspersky, running much less expensive than the Symantec Corporate they use now.

But, I'm thinking AVG since the packages for a client/server model AV system seem much more straight forward.

Low cost? Do you need a central managed server? If not, check out AOL Kaspersky. Completely free and updates regularly. Much better than the free version of AVG.

I started rolling out AOL Kaspersky and now any machines where I used the same key more than once have a notice saying say. I also cannot obtain any more licenses with my email address because it has been used too many times.

I have clamav on the server now but yes clamwin will not work due to the non active scanning.

How much $$ amounts are you getting for estimates. Feel free to PM/email it to me if you do not feel comfortable posting it.
