Volume control

window

Junior Member
Hay, i run Windows 7 Home Premium. My volume control is messed up. Sometimes it doesn't come up when i click it, sometimes it shows up when i click it, but it have the look of one of the webpages i'm reading with my browser if you know what i mean. Sometimes it is totally black. So i would like to reinstall the volume control, or copy it from the dvd. Anyone know what i could do?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have another way to control your volume (Realtek control panel, volume control on speakers, keyboard, etc.)? And do they work for the volume? Had you recently installed something (hardware/software) when this occurred?

The first thing I would try is the system file checker. If you haven't used it before:

From the Start menu, right-click the Command prompt and select run as administrator. Type:

sfc /scannow

If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest looking for an updated driver for your audio chip.

If that doesn't work, pay attention to any other odd activity on the computer (lots of browser redirects, slowness), which would indicate some Malware at work.

Thanks for your answer. I will try and see if sfc /scannow helps. I think the problem is related to a registry cleaning i did.

Thanks for your help. Sfc /scannow said it found problems, but couldn't fix them all. I allso uninstalled, and reinstalled the soundcard drivers. The registry cleaning backups are long gone D:. I think i will have to reinstall Windows, because the problem persists.

Your case might be one of the extremely rare cases where a repair install might work. Could be worth a shot.

That's too bad. Those registry cleaners seem to do more harm than good.
