Voltage on a p4

Hi i have been reading some stuff about overclocking and i just got a new system to overclock. I have a c1 stepping p4 2.53 ghz that want to overclock. My question is what is the max voltage that is safe using stock cooling. I dont want to shorten the life of the processor by overvolting it. I have tried 3.0 ghz at 1.575 volts and it wasnt stable. I dont want to push the voltage any higher until i know what a save voltage is on stock cooling. Any advice appreciated.
 
I downloaded speedfan since motherboard monitor didnt work with my board. When im at the stock voltage of 1.525v it says it is 1.47v in speedfan. There was a problem with the vcore reading in my boards bios and i flashed it and it was fixed but it still reads low on speefan. I guess ill try 1.6v and see if it is stable thanks for the reply.

p4pe, 1.65v in bios = 1.71-1.72v actual lol

another way you can check is to reboot, go to hardware monitor and see actual vcore there (it will give you more or less a better idea)
 
yep thats about right.

what ppl need to understand is....

say 1.625v gets them 165fsb~
1.65v is only gonna get them to 166fsb~
1.675v is gonna get them 167fsb~
and 1.7v will probably get them nothing.

is that extra 0.0725v worth 2fsb and possible damage to you chip? i dont think so.

hey, have you heard of any sudden tbred death syndromes over a certain voltage?
i havnt heard anything, and idont think there is a voltage limit like norhtwoods on tbred is there?
 
I don't know what the limit is, but anytime you pump enough voltage into something it's gonna fry...it's not a matter of if it's a matter of how much...🙂
 
Thanks for the responses guys. By the way i got an albatron px845pev pro which undervolts i think since all my readings in the hardware monitor in the bios are low. It may just be a bios problem that can be solved with a bios flash since the vcore was showing low in the old bios that came with the board.
 
I have 2 of the same Albatron boards in my rigs below. They do tend to undervolt quite a bit. I set the voltage at 1.75 in the bios, yet the hardware monitor and MBM both read 1.68 idle. I fried a 1.8 once running the voltage at 1.8. It died in about 20 days so be careful and follow the 1.7 rule close as you can so your proc lasts until you are ready for your next upgrade 🙂.

yeah i know
but im wondering if the cpu(tbred) will die in about the same time a p4 dies with over 1.7v vcore
