Sys:
p4 1.8a @ 2.4
asus p4b533
350w ATX PS
BFG Asylum geForce ti4200 128MB

whenever I play a game or benchmark (usually a few seconds into it actually),
my mobo starts beeping like crazy. At first I thought it was the cpu
throttling as I just slapped on a new cpu fan (spark7). But after getting
AsusProbe to installed correctly, I see that the cpu is never getting over 40*C.
Now when I play CS for any more than a few minutes, in addition to the beeping,
probe pops up telling me that +3.3v has dropped below 3.0v. Low 2.9s in fact.

What exactly would cause this?.. This was never an issue with my previous vid card
(geForce 4 MX440). BTW: this card is running @ stock clock 250/446.

does anyone have any ideas?

thanks for any help.

I believe I'm having the same problem... I'm using an Asus board, A7N8X with an XP2500 CPU... before I upgraded to this board and CPU, I was able to run the video card at 270/540, now it won't run at anything higher than stock, 250/444

I don't have Asus Probe running while playing games, but every now and then, the screen goes white and after a few seconds it reboots... does that happen to you too?

Have to back up Doh! on this one, sounds like a text book weak PowerSupply issue.

Bombino- your new board draws considerably more power then the one it replaces. Don't simply look at the rating of the power supply, but also what the name of the brand is. I would take a 330Watt Enermax over a 500Watt generic.

Jeff-

Run Asus Probe and see what your 3.3V rail is looking like. You can try to bump up the AGP volt to 1.6 instead of 1.5 if you have a PS that can handle it, if the problem remains it sounds like you could stand a new PSU yourself. I checked your rig out, and didn't see it mentioned if your Antec case had an Antec PSU to go along with it? If you do, then more then likely a slight bump on the AGP will get you back to where you were.

Jeff, when I benchmark with this card and the cpu at 2.6,
it will reboot spontaneously. But at 1.8-2.4, it's stable.

Ben,

that makes sense.. the psu Im using now is the one that came with the case,
probably a royal pos. Thanks for the heads up there.

btw.. I had previously gone from 1.5 to 1.6v in hopes it would clear up the dip,
no luck there. I guess the PSU is getting the boot.

thanks alot everyone. I appreciate it.

I DID!!!.. :)

I picked up a Antec TRUE480 last night!
I know, it's probably a little overkill, but
Fry's didnt have the 430 in stock. It was
a little on the expensive side @ 119,
but I had some Fry's credit, so it didnt hurt
so bad. heh. Installation went smoothly,
except for the fact that the FAN ONLY connectors
dont seem to be feeding. I linked 5 fans together
with these two plugs and none of the fans work.
I wasnt worried about it though, I was more
concerned with troubleshooting my new
Leadtek TV card. 3 hours, 5 safe mode boots,
and 2 manual driver installs later... IT WORKS!
I mean seriously.. when are some of these TW companies
going to learn how to write decent software!!!!!???

One thing I was REALLY impressed with, was
that even with 4/5 case fans out of commission,
my CPU temps dropped at idle from 36*C to 32-33*C!!!
The bottom 92mm really draws alot of heat off the HSF.

Just by glancing at the Vrails.. the +3.3V is up from
3.00x to 3.29x, so Im confident that the PSU really was
the weak point. I'll test it out tonight though for sure.

Thanks to eveyone for the help.
