Voltage Control on MSI 280x Issue with the new model

Earlier versions of the card I believe have the model number: 912-V277-053R.

The card I recently received is model number: 912-V277-058

MSI afterburner beta 18 supports voltage adjustments for the former, but not the latter.

I'm unable to get voltage adjustments to take on the newer model on anything i've tried. I've tried BIOS flashes to the BIOS on previous models BIOS version with voltage adjustment made in BIOS. Adjusting BIOS voltage on shipped BIOS causes the card not to boot. Using older model bios the result of this is that I can set volts at 0.95 in BIOS and GPU-Z will report the volts i've set, but I can nonetheless mine on the card for hours at 1120c/1500m so it looks like default volts (1.2v)are staying.

Anybody else have a new MSI and have a look at volts? Thing tipping me off that stock volts are staying no matter what is that the card runs really hot no matter what I set and no matter what GPU-Z reports, and also that it OC's way past what volt readings would indicate is feasible.

I've done all my work in the default BIOS switch position 1.

Did you try it trying it with switch in position 2?

I would try an older version of sapphire trixx. I've been able to undervolt with that when msi voltage control has been greyed out.

Maybe it's just a matter of the voltage regulator just not being supported in the current software yet.
New cards can be pesky like that

I did as a trial of booting into windows to check MSI AB for volt control, but it didn't work. I haven't tried any BIOS flash/mods on this setting though.

I haven't tried this but have read this as a possible solution with mixed results from guys in similar situations.

I'm hoping this gets resolved in new AB beta 19. But Unwinders posts at Guru3d suggest it may be a bios issue. For this card i've tried 042 (shipping version) and 040. I may go back to 039, haven't yet.

I'm going to contact MSI to get a new bios but in the meantime if anyone else comes across this problem there's a workaround that grants up to -94mv to +94mv via MSI AB.

Adding this,

[Settings]
VDDC_IR3567B_Detection = 32h
VDDC_IR3567B_Output = 0
MVDDC_IR3567B_Detection = 32h
MVDDC_IR3567B_Output = 1

to the Afterburner profile config file that starts with VEN_1002xxxxxxxxxx.cfg does the trick. May need to enable ownership of the folder containing that file.
