Voltage change causing problems

I have a Duron 600 on an Asus A7V (9x107 @ default voltage)

I have been having some stability problems lately and decided to push the voltage up a bit. I raised it two notches (1.45?) and the pc wouldn't boot. When I reset, it said I had an "improper cpu speed" The settings had all gone back to default except clock speed which is dip switch modified.

Why would such a small increase in voltage cause such a big hiccup? I see tons of people at 1.85??????

do you mean you raised it to 1.85? I had the A7v and its a very shaky board, it doesn't like to up the fsb hardly at all..I talked to alot of people and found out that alot of them had the same problem as me..I couldn't up my fsb above 104 with a 900 tbird.. that could attribute to the problem of it being shakey, as far as raising the vcore and not booting, maybe it was a temperature problem.. what were your temps before upping the voltage? try putting it back to those settings and raising it 1 notch instead of 2, see what happens and monitor your temps..

Yeah, I had been playing Q3 for a while, so my cpu was probably hot.

According to the BIOS, voltage default is ~1.35V I went up to 1.45 well below the 1.85 everyone talks about. Did I change the wrong voltage setting???

Don't have a clue why your mobo is defaulting to 1.35, because the default for a Duron is 1.6v, the operating range for a duron is spec'ed at 1.5-1.7 and most overclocks of any magnitude end up having to push the vcore to 1.80 and up to max most boards will do is 1.85. So you got some kinda wierdness going on.

Had a thought, are you thinking that the minimum your board will go is set as your default? Cuz thats not true. Check you mobo book and make sure, it was on 1.35v and not on 1.6v or chip default (which the bridges on the chip would tell your board in default mode) cause if you changed it down to 1.45v then no wonder it wont post. Try uping it to 1.7 or 1.75 instead, should clear up your prob.
