This must be a mistake.. an auto company that names it vehicles with names like Toe-Rag and Phat One .. how can they be suffering???

LOL.. almost as sad as the shape Mitsubishi motors is in.

The only thing I like about VW is there cars look halfway decent (interior+exterior) and their commercials don't suck.

Of course, the next crop of VW cars is looking less and less decent.

I still love Audi though.

ya, for some reason they boost the price cuz of the name. people are suckered into buying german cars based on that fact alone, its 'german'

they really need to get their act together. japans beating them in the price war.

well if the new ones are as crappy as my 96 jetta, they should be bankrupt in about another 6 mos, and seeing as to how they handled the whole ignition coil issue, i'd say it wont be that long

interesting. i thought that sales of the Phaeton would boost revenue for this company. His is the Phaeton doing in sales?

Somewhere between failure and piss-poor

I'm suprised that VW is doing poorly, considering how many Audi's they're selling in my area. There must be at least a dozen A4's like mine in the company parking lot now, and I can't even get a scheduled service appointment at some of the more popular dealerships. 🙁

It is obvious that VW needs new management. Whoever decided to open up the Mexican factories should be shot.

Whoever approved the Phaeton should be shot

When ARE they going to introduce the new van? And why couldn't they let it keep the old-style round headlights at least?

I was amazed to see how poorly German cars did in reliablity rating from JD Ewards compared to Japanese and Korean cars. They always had such a good reputation and people are willing to pay so much more for them, just compare a Nissan Maxima stats to any German car. Look at size ,power, tires, and other features.

Poor quality, too expensive, bizzare marketing...if it weren't for the Beetle and the Jetta, they'd be dead now. They name of their SUV is the absolute worst name I've ever heard (what the hell is a Touareg anyway??? It's not only an ugly name, it's unpronouncable!) They should explore their their Porsche hetitage and specialize in low cost high performance cars- that's the niche that seems to be gaining interest these days. If they came out with a $25K sports car, they'd make a killing!

Low-cost high performance car... hm... sounds like a classic old-school Type 1 or Type 3 to me! 😀

We have a Eurovan and that this is a piece of sh*t. Little things breaking here, little things breakin there... German quality has DEFINITELY gone down. Plus maintanence is SO expensive as well.

Pischetsrieder also has a winner in Audi, VW's $28 billion-in-revenue premium brand. Strong sales of Audi's luxury A8, the new A6 midsize sedan, and the hot A3 compact helped drive a 10% increase in operating profit, to $666 million, in the first half of 2004. Audi will introduce the rugged Pike's Peak SUV in 2005.

At least Audi is doing well, and with the model changes for the Jetta and others come next year sales might pick up, I think their main problem is pricing, they tried to move up a bit on the ladder and no one bought...hopefully they will come back down to earth and price accordingly and not alienate their base.
