This link is old. Also, many manufacturers have furloughed production. What about this van, though?

I hope it is cancelled and VW goes to confessional for this atrocity. What a damn shame. It would be like BMW taking a kia sportage, putting a BMW badge on it, and calling it an X1 or something, as this van is a dodge caravan in every way except appearance and "German tuned suspension".

VW was hoping to gain 5% of minivan market share with this piece of sh*t, what were they smoking? I never see one. People who want a minivan buy a sienna or odyssey. If they can't afford it, they get a dodge caravan. This is a caravan but at some silly VW price. Fail.

I've seen them on the road, but not that often. Chrysler does make a good van, but VW doesn't need a main stream minivan. They need a quirky van with a pop-up camper shell 🙂

Freakin' a!
<--- may be slightly biased as the owner of one

I heard it was a much improved version of the already very good Chrysler Van. First videoThey didn't like certain aspects of it, like the near exact outer styling and the fact that it didn't feel German, but overall they really liked it.

I did some testing on the Routans a few months ago, total time less than 1 week...maybe 400-500 miles. Its not much better than the caravan, the 3.8 is noisy and weak. It handles well, but the steering lacks feel. I prefer the Sienna in terms of driving dynamics, though the Chrysler's do have quieter interiors.

VW is apparently having problems selling them, because I've got a whole bunch of them. And in order for me to have a bunch of them, the guys in fleet purchasing must have gotten some fire sales prices on about a million dollars worth of Routans. Being the cheap bastards that they are, the ones "left over" for fleet sale are all stripped, cloth, no options, etc.

My neighbors were intrigued, because they didn't know VW made a minivan. I had to explain the whole rebadging thing.

It is a shame they didn't make the microbus.

BTW in wiki it mentions in Sept/08 there are thoughts the microbus may see the light of day afterall.

And then the automotive industry collapsed

I don't think anyone will cry too much over this minivan going away...it was'nt anything special anyway...
