just wondering peoples experience in a direct upgrade from a Volcano 7+ to the SLK-800

i imagine it is alot quieter with a fan doing the same CFM's ?

performance better also ??

any experiences etc welcome
also what kinda 80mm fans have proved good to work with it, for both performance and for noise

thanx

IMO, yes. from any cooler.
I upgraded my Volcano2 to a SLK-800 w/Silent YS-Tech and its 15*c cooler.
Despite what many people say, you dont need a super powerful fan (that`l turn ure pc into a hovercraft!!! lol), to get decent cooling with a SLK-800.
Just buy the SLK-800 & a Silent fan (like the YS-Tech Silent 80mm one, 20dBa, 27CFM) and you`ll get far better cooling with that than the volcano7+ at max speed, plus it will quiet.
And in the future, should you need a better cooling/get a faster CPU that needs better cooling, just replace the 80mm silent with a high performance one.
Dont put a 60mm fan on it though. although it supports it, you`ll be better off with a 80mm, cos for the same CFM, it`ll be quieter.
Also, if you do buy it, dont forget to put the pads on the HS that comes with it, or you are risking your processor core cracking.

here are my temps
Thermalright SLK-800 + YS-Tech Silent 80mm 3pin(20dBa, 27CFM)
"Zalman" thermal paste ("Zalman" cos the paste came with a Zalman MoBo HS)
AMD AthlonXP 1800
Abit KT7A-RAID

Idle (the temp as im writing this)36*c
Load 40*c

I went from Volcano 6+Cu to SLK-800 and temps dropped 10C with AthlonXP 2100 oc to 140fsb. I get real nice results with 80mm Mechatronics 53 cfm fans. Not widely known, but great, quiet performers. Temps stay at about 38C.
