Volcano 7 or a SVC GC68 with a Panflow or Stealth???

I think I have knocked down my choices either a volcano 7 or a svc GC68 with either a panflo or stealth fan

I currently have a 1.33 athly not overclocked on a epox 8k7a+ board

and it is running hot and is very very loud with the taisol heatsink and 60mm fan I think a globalwin running at about 6500rpm

It runs at about 53 degrees just surfing the net
I put the system together last september and the system temp has gradually gotten worse, it started out idling at about 44 and I used artic sliver. no crashs or anything yet

Basically I want to spend under 20 bucks or so and get the best cooling and something with a reasonable sound level, thanks foe any assitance. Any other HSF options would also be appreciated!!!

hey bthorny,

i'm currently running the gc68 with panaflo L1A on a 1.4 tbird. while it's definately not the best cooling solution out there, it's definately quiet. currently the majority of the noise being produced in my computer is the fan on my visiontek gts-v. if you're not gonna be overclocking, i'd say the gc68 with panaflo is a nice way to go for near silence. as for the stealth, if u do a search in this forum, there was a recent thread about em, and how they weren't really that quiet. i don't have any personal experience with the stealth, but i'd say u'll be very satisfied with the panaflo 🙂.

hope this helps.

If your not going to do major overclocking, then I would say go with the GC-68 over the volcano7. Plus, with the recent drop in the price of the gc-68 on many sites, you would save atleast 10 dollars over the volcano7, which can be used to buy a more powerful fan, Arctic Silver 3, case fans or anything else that may help you lower temperatures.

either way I plan on getting artic sliver 3, and if I get the svc GC68, I will definitly go panflow.

What kind of temps are those who are running these on athlon getting, and how loud is the volcano 7, from what I have heard so far the GC68 is really quiet.....

lordbob99,
you run a 1.4 TB with L1A? what is the temp?

bthorny,
Do you check your taisol HSF if they are clotted with drit? clean it up and see if temp lower. I will say improve your case air flow first. how is the case temp go? 53 is rather high. do you have 1 intake at front and i out go case fan on back (not courting the PS)?
i will suggest to get the gc68 and then rather than jump on a panaflo now. You can see how it improve. Then you can try to see if panaflo is need or not.
The panaflo in my exp is rather weak for a hs fan. It has okay flow cp to a medium 60mm fan. But not enough pushing power

I have a 1040 antec case with two fans in the back, I am going to order one for the front when I order the new hsf.
When it gets dirty I clean it out a get a 1-2 degree drop in temp, but I would like to see it go lower than that. The noise is definitely the biggest issue this, It is giving me a freaking headache.

The case temp is okay, 23 degrees.

I just replaced my Cooler Master with a Volcano 7. The Volcano is loud as heck--sounds like a jet engine. So today, I ordered a SVC G68. It's on sale right now for only $6.99 at Silicon Valley Compucycle (as discussed in Hot Deals).

my idle cpu temps are about 39-42. under load, i've maxed out at 50. with ambient 25-27. definately not the coolest solutoin out there, but it's incredibly silent, and my machine's been running rock solid.

I'm thinking I am going with the SVC GC 68 with a panaflo and an extra case fan to pull air in through the front I just hope it will keep my CPU cool enough, it should considering it is not overclocked, and I think I will also get some artic sliver 3 or maybe 2.
From what I understand it should definitely be quieter, I just hope that it is also cooler.

edit
I cleaned it again again and now it is even idling higher, 55 degrees WTF, I hope their isn't something up with my processor???

I just ordered 1 today w/ panaflo from svc, it will be going on 1.4 XP.

Also I have an antec sx1030 case and noticed the rising temps.
I figured out 2 things, 1 summer is here and my house is getting a few degrees warmer,
2 I cleaned out everything, I was amazed at how much dust was in my powersupply and cpu heatsink. I took out all my drives and gave it a good cleaning. much better temps now.

4 80mm fans 2 in 2 out
