Volcano 7 - Fan or Cinder Block?

I've been out of the scene for a while and normally I'm not easily amused, but I just received this fan from newegg for a new system I'm building. While it isn't the biggest fan out there, it's the biggest one I've ever hold up close. To the point, I'm affraid of even installing it. It almost feels as if this thing could rip the board out of its tray with standoffs and everything once I set my case vertically LOL . Really, this is one big ass fan I must say. It's humongous ! and I'd like to get some suggestions as far as the mounting goes. I'm very familiar with users cracking their CPUs mounting these fans, I always laughed at the fact someone would be so stupid as to not know how to mount a fan, but now I see why...

ThermalTake VOLCANO 7

Do any of you suggest I get a shim for it? I'd hate damaging my CPU and not be able to get it replaced cause I cracked it

Your input is greatly appreciated

I've used, installed, and removed those many times and never ruined anything. Once it seemed like I would, but my computer still runs fine. =) It should be fine as long as your case doesn't fall over or something.

I've got a TT Volcano 7+. It is BIG! But, it won't destroy your core if you gently use a flat-head screwdriver to put the 3-hole clasp on the front.🙂

i have the exact same cooler, only that it uses only 1 socket tab

Well, it does feel better knowing most of you didn't have any major problems, cracked anything or broke any fingers installing this beast. =-)

Now, what should I do with that 'please remove before use' sticker under the heatsink? 😉 J.K

Thanks a bunch guys
