Volari uber alles

I may have to run out and get me an XGI video card after seeing the VGA vid card roundup on Tom's Hardware. Check out some of these benches for the Volari V5 Ultra and Volari Duo V8 Ultra

Don't worry, drivers to make those games run and look like blurry Voodoo2 era crap are probably forthcoming. With those hack-job drivers I bet they'll be able to get ~9600XT performance too 😉 .

Yeah, the Volari looks horrible.

I knew it was going to suck/totally fail in competition with ATI/Nvidia, but damn, it is absolutely abysmal!

C'mon this isn't an ATi v nVidia thread. We're all supposed to be banding together to pick on XGI. Didn't XGI say they were going to dominate the graphics chip market by 2007?

Graphics chips market + XGI? Good joke!

Anyway, Im glad XGI had a bash at it. Quite frankly, the only ones who have enough money to compete with Nvidia and ATI are the ones that arent stupid enough to spend billions to catch them up.

I'm glad XGI waded into the graphics market just to make me laugh, chuckle, and maybe giggle a bit.

Keep up the good work XGI!

I remember when they first announced the card I was surprised that XGI was going with a dual chip card. I saw the results from X-bit Labs and I was amazed at how pathetic this card seemed. Nice try XGI, maybe you'll have better luck next time. 😉

That is IT! I am holding off for a V8, bet all the suckers who bought the 6800 and x800's are feeling sorry now. Ah well, I am glad I waited for this, now while everyone suffers through stuttering frame rates with the "latest generation" cards, I will be in gaming bliss. XGI pwns all!!!

They have repeatedly stated they will keep throwing money at this, and as the old addage so wisely states "you must crawl before you walk" 😉 They have a long way to go certainly but with enough financial resources to throw at R&D and recruit better talent, they just may meet their goals someday, probably just not in their projected timeframe. Least some forget, there are advantages to their location, and time+enough capital is a good formula for success. Of course good reverse engineering and corporate espionage don't hurt either 😛

Just out of curiosity what the hell is there problem. They have a dual chip graphics card, high clockspeeds plenty of bandwidth... does all the error lie in horrible drivers?

I suppose the only other contender that COULD compete if they wanted to would be Matrox. If they come back that would be nice... quality over quantity back then!

It's most likely a combination of drivers and chip efficiency. But I don't quite get Matrox's deal, they pimped the Parhelia as if it was going to be an actual contender for a gaming card, the specs should have placed it between a GF4Ti/R8500 and a 9700Pro but it struggles to keep up with the slowest of Radeon 8500s and GF4 Tis.

Because of that I'm not so sure they could compete if "they wanted to" because it definately seemed as if they honostly intended the Parhelia to be a serious gaming contender, and then we found out how it performed...

Well, I just installed the XGI Volari 3 card from Chaintech that I bought off Newegg. I'll be making a thread in a little while after I finish exploring this chip.
