VoIP setup questions

So I was looking around at some used Cisco inventory on the web and I come across a 1751-V.

I was wondering, would I be able to setup voip at home with this using only cable or do I have to have a dedicated T1 (or similar) with a dmark and at least a single phone number tied to it?

Basically, I would like to cut out the middle men (any phone or voip provider) and just have high speed internet as my only requirement (aside from the hardware of course).

Does anyone know the basic requirements for setting up a voip environment?

the voice feature on the 1751 only enables it to carry voice / fax traffic...just like any other VoIP router. it in no way replaces a carrier or provider.

to actually accomplish this would take more time / money / effort than it would ever be worth.

Someone, somewhere must assign the phone number, so calls can be routed thru and to
the Public Switched Telephone Network. Otherwise, you can not make or receive calls to anyone.
You can however, use that router to set up a Private Line to one or more other stations. But you
would only be able to call to the dedicated extensions. To make it work requires a Trunk Line from
the Telco, then a table needs to be built, which assigns the Phone Number and IP of the set it is for.
