I'm looking for a solid VoIP carrier for the least amount of money where i can place unlimited local and CONUS (US) long distance calls for a flat monthly fee. Free calls to China and Taiwan would be great too, I don't know anyone in China but I have relatives in Taiwan.

Broadvoice seems to have a $19.95/mo deal that appears to fit my needs but what's the catch?

I have Cable Internet, and a good analog phone. I currently use SBC and I hate their guts especially at $25/mo for absolutely nothing except a damn #.

I don't have Broadvoice personally, but I love Voicepulse. Great features, great price, great reliability. Unfortunately it's not available in MI. :(

Here's a list of several providers and their ratings at BBR.

No offense intended, but this is General Hardware?

My friend switched his primary phone service to Lingo and was unimpressed with the quality. If you do do it, get a new number from the VOIP until you decide you like it. Getting your primary number switched from one of the Baby Bells to a VOIP and then back again can be frustrating.

I have CallVantage and we've been pleased with it. My mother has Vonage (and she's convinced a bunch of her friends) and she (and they) have all been pleased.

I just saw "General..." and posted... woops

Vonage appears to cater to English speaking countries mainly. I'll look into Call Vantage and Voicepulse.

I live in SE MI.

Did you forget that 911 isn't the only number to call in an emergency?

Put the Police, EMS, and Fire #s into speed dial. 2 key presses instead of 3:
Memory, #

vs

9 - 1 - 1

Plus you don't have to pay a BS 911 fee.

There you go, free of charge. Most PDs have emergency #s and non-emergency #s that aren't 911.

I have Vonage and 911 service. I am very happy with my service. I was paying close to $70 a month with SBC and now just $25. Yes, their free LD just covers the U.S. and Canada. I wish it was worldwide too. Not that I know a lot of people outside of the U.S., but it would be nice nonetheless. Plus, I have a cell phone(s). If you don't have alternate communications I would not get VoIP. If your internet goes down you have no phone service.

If you check out that Sunrocket Thread in Hot Deals it has some promo codes for an awesome SunRocket Deal. $199/year $16.58/month Free US, Canada and Long Distance, 2 free phones.

For the long distance I was checking in and some services offer some packages but SR also gives $3.00 free for international calls. I sometimes call China and that was listed at 5 cents. So, for me that was all I needed since most places are between 3-5 cents it would give me roughly 80-100 minutes free a month. Enjoy! Good luck!
