VOIP is better than I thought

I got Vonage last week and have found the call quality to be very, very good. It's almost like using a landline...better than cellular. I am using the high-quality compression option (90kbps) but this is not a problem using a 256 up cable line.

It's neat to see all your calls listed in your account manager...as well as your VMs. You can listen to your VMs as wav files too. And unlike cellular, incoming calls are not billed.

VOIP may not be 99.9% reliable but it seems worth the $14.95 a month. NO STINKING BS TAXES EITHER (Fed line charge, regulatory cost recovery fee, universal service fee, Terrorism readiness fee, etc. Say No to the BS!)

you still need to have a normal phone, no?
not to use vonage, but to have a phone.

I mean, this is not meant to make ppl cancel the verizon thing and have only vonage, is it?

Yeah, voip is great alternative to high-priced, taxed landlines. I love my $16 plan(14.95 + ~1), compared to my old comcast $17/month+$10 in taxes phone line.

No PC needed, just a cable modem (or actually, a broadband ethernet connection).

It's transparent...plug your standard phone into VOIP adapter (vonage provides), pick up phone, hear dialtone, dial normally. You also get a regular phone number. Incoming calls ring your phone normally.

Vonage is my only wired phone connection into my house. I don't have a Verizon landline (never did).

If vonage goes down, I have a cellular phone for backup.
