You can use the Obi110 with a single standard phone, up to two GV/voip numbers, and one landline (optional). Plug the Obi110 into your internet router, phone into Obi110, and Obi110 to landline (wall) outlet. Setup GV in webportal SP1, add another GV/voip if you wish to SP2, and you're good to go.

To use GV, just pick up the phone and dial.
To use GV/voip #2, dial "**2" plus the number.
To use landline, dial "**8" plus the number.
Calls to 911 will use landline by default (GV does NOT do e911, other voip providers do).

You'll only be able to use one line at a time.

Is there anything else ill need?

You may need to alter your router settings, read their forums if you need help.

4 years on ooma. I used to be grandfathered in, but they changed that recently and now I pay ~$3 a month. Still cheaper than Vonage, which had crappy call quality compared to my ooma box.

If you have the Obi central to your house, and the base station is the only phone you have, then you can plug it right into the Obi. If you have other phones in your house, then you can plug the Obi into a regular phone jack in the wall and then plug your phones into any other phone jacks in the wall and everything should work fine. Just disconnect the main feed that comes in from the outside phone line maybe to make sure it doesn't get confused with 2 signals of some sort.

no we just have the one phone. So I dont need to use the phone jack. Thats good cause the modem/router isnt anywhere near a jack. Awesome, I think this is the Answer for us!

If you won't be using a landline (POTS), then you don't need the Obi110. Save a few dollars and get the Obi100. They both work with your standard phone.

From reading this thread, the Obi w/ my GV sounds like a great way for me to finally be able to cut off the landline. I need a home phone still for the kids to use (no way am I going to spring for each of my kids for cell phones at this point) and while 25 a month isn't huge for the landline, I can think of better use for the $.

Just don't forget that GV doesn't do e911.

I don't use VOIP. I've got to pay for my damned cell minutes anyway, might as well use them.

How did you get steered in the wrong direction? When you want to keep your old number, you have to port the number to the provider you choose, else you get a new number. No different than with any other service (cellular to cellular, landline to cellular, landline to voip, voip to cellular, etc).

you cant port a land # to google voice. It seemed like from what everyone was saying that it was possible. so i thought

port land # to GV
Use Gv w/Obi
Use Obi with my analog phone

So I had the roomate buy the obi with him thinking we could just use our home # after it was ported to GV

Just don't forget that GV doesn't do e911.

with an android phone, you can set groove ip to exclude numbers. so set to exclude 911 and that number will be dialed natively over the cell network automatically. 911 works on inactivated phones. you can buy a bad esn sanyo zio for $20, and all of the software is free. free landline with e911.

From what I've read, you can get a cheap AT&T go phone, port your home number to that, then after that takes hold port the now go phone number to google voice.
