SBC Offers Voice-Over-Internet Services Across U.S.
SBC Communications Inc. on Thursday said it will offer voice-calling over the Internet, in a move that marks a major technological shift beyond the local phone company's traditional circuit-based networks.

Took a little start up (Vonage) to kick the U.S. Monopolies in the butt to do it.
Now it won't fly if every call or packet is taxed. Call your Congressman to re-instate the Internet Tax exemption now!
I'm sure even the giant SBC will be pressuring Congress as well since they would like their new service and revenue to have a chance of getting off the ground as quickly as possible so Vonage doesn't get all the money they want to go after.
