VOIP & BF2142 need the same port forwarded

i have VOIP at IP 192.168.0.100 and my gaming PC at 192.168.0.199.

I'm having issues with port forwarding - both VOIP and BF2142 require the same port to be forwarded to them.

how do i get past this? do i have to put the VOIP in the DMZ and forget about forwarding any ports to it?

i'm using a dir-655.

thanks alot,
rp.

which port number do they share? how would the router know which computer to send the unsolicited requests to? easiest workaround would be to change BF2142's client port number...

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +port 9910

voip needs ports TCP 8880 and UDP 8000-65534.

BF2142 needs these ports opened according to portforward.com
TCP
80,443,1024-1124,4711,9960-9969,17475,18060,18120,18300,18510,27900,28910,29900
UDP
1024-1124,1500-4999,9964,16567,18300,18510,27900-27901,28910,29900,55123

VOIP takes up so many UDP ports that I can't assign any to my gaming PC

According to packet 8:

"The following ports are needed for incoming and outgoing Internet communications from and to Packet8 devices and servers. RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 8000-65534 UDP and Ports 8880 TCP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic."

unless your hosting a 2142 server i dont think you need the ports forwarded. Everyone always says you have to forward ports, but i have never had a problem playing a game with the ports not forwarded.
I have only had to open them if i was hosting a server

Same goes for VOIP, i have vonage and a work based IP phone, and they both work with no ports forwarded.

if you have a service inside of the network that requests communication outside of the network, it will be fine. like your client BF2142,

but if you are hosting something, you will need to make that port available for people to make communcations with you, without you requesting first.

if that makes sense.

Well, if i don't forward any BF2142 ports, I can't connect to the EA Master Server to log in.

i'm going to try this right now. none of my ports will be forwarded and i'm going to try BF2142 and VOIP(packet 8)

ok, you guys were correct - i turned off port forwarding and both bf2142 and VOIP worked fine - I was having problems connecting b/c I was running PeerGuardian. doh.

thanks alot. this has been bugging me for a few days.
