VoIP and gaming... how does it work?

I've seen games advertised as being VoIP compatible. How does that work?

I have VoIP phone service, and my phone has a headset option.

How do I get the game working w/ something like Teamspeak?
 
Get teamspeak, install it on your computer, plug in your headset, get a server, and away you go. You don't need or use VOIP phone services for that.
 
using voip for something like teamspeak aint all that good, in general most voip apps are person to person and do not allow you to talk with a group of people.
