i'm looking at the voicestream 600 minute plan as a cellphone service and am wondering if any of you have voicestream... do you like it? do you hate it? i'm in the central nj/nyc metro area, so any reviews from people in that area would be especially helpful, but any/all would be appreciated... thanks.

hold on there, I have had voicestream for over a year now on a nokia 5190 with minimal problems. They do have the best deal if you are looking for anyutime minutes, you can pay online, and the customer support is great. Qwest is really bad. I know someone who works at voicestream and they said that they loose money on the 600mintue plan for the first year, they are really competitive. Also, they replaced my phone for free when I dropped it, and they gave me another year of free weekend minutes.

Well in Pittsburgh, the coverage is great. I've never seen many people have problems with it compared to people that use Sprint. Now that's a crap service! I'm about to get a Voicestream plan this week...

Ok..

#1. The coverage plain sucks here (in Mpls. MN), just seems finicky at best. Get out of any major metropolitan area by more than 10 miles and your SoL. In comparison Sprint PCS is 10 times better.

#2. Their systems constantly and forever go down. I'd say about once a week you'll get about 2-3 hours where your phone won't work, even though you have a perfect signal to the tower. Just get "dead air" when people either call you, or you try to make an outgoing call.

#3. They blatantly flat-out lied to me. When I first turned 18, I got a phone from them. I didn't have any credit so they said they could put me on a pre-paid plan, and if after those 6 months I never let service drop, I'd be able to get on a plan that didn't bend me over and screw the hell out of me for per-minute charges. So I dilligently pay tons of money to them, more than double their normal plans. Call up after 6 months and their service rep literrally laughs at me and refuses to give me a normal calling plan. Bah.

#4. Their customer service sucks. Good luck getting anything done with them, they generally don't care. Also their computers seem to go down constantly.

As a comparison, I'd say Sprint even with their lacking customer service is 3 times more enjoyable to use.

shrug.

I don't use it very much. I have it in Utah. Had it for more than a year. I'm on the $20 for 60min/mo plan. The only problem I had was with the Ericcson phone. Had a bad program or something. Had to send it in and they replaced it.

Haven't had a problem with the service.

I have used Sprint, AT&T wirelss, GTE, and Voicestream.

I like Voicestream a lot because:

1) Service area is better than Sprint in Dallas/Ft Worth. There are so many dead spots using Sprint, it is not funny. AT&T coverage has been ok.

2) Customer service has been great. I cannot remember how many times I wanted to bang my head on the wall with Sprint. At&T had fine customer service, no complaint there, but Voicestream has been the best.

3)I got 2 free phones, with wireless kits and car chargers, for free. And I have a 4000 minute plan for 70 bucks a month. This is great for me and my wife's long distance. I did sign a 1-year contract with VS, whereas with Sprint I did not have too. But the contract does not bother me because of the plan I have is more than sufficient. And with Sprint I was CONSTANTLY being charged for roaming, even when I never left the calling area or even my freaking city!!!

4) Their 5 state coverage is better than the 4 state I had with Sprint and AT&T last year. I have not tried their national offerings.

I worried at first because VS is new in my area, but so far I have not a single complaint. Been using them about 3 months.
