Those damn phones suck, notorious for breaking down. My brother, three of my friends and I have all had ours replaced through VoiceStreams warranty service. Terrible POS's made in Korea.

The 8290 is a poor quality phone. It's been plagued with problems since day 1. Nokia has discontinued it. That is one reason why Voicestream dropped them a few months ago; they were selling them off for $50. I have a Nokia 5190 with Voicestream and - after 10 months - it's still working as well as the day I bought it.

I have a Nokia 6190 w/ VoiceStream and it's been working solid for well over 2 years, damn these are the best cell phones.

Get the Nokia 3390.

Ok, I work in the cell biz, up here in Canada.

Here's what you do. Call Nokia's Customer Service number.

BE POLITE. Being a ranting a$$hole wont get you anywhere. Explain the issue, and if you're still less than a month after the warranty, thhey will have it fixed.

If you are rude or a jerk, they probably wont do it. After all, they do it as a courtesy. So be polite but firm and I bet you Nokia will take care of you. Stress that you are VERY unhappy that it died so close to the warranty and that should you not receive some sort of satisfaction, you'll have to look at a different manufacturer.

I've gotten a few phones covered in the 13th month by Nokia. It's worth a shot.
